Coders Who Travel Experience: A Journey of Growth and Discovery

When I first joined Coders Who Travel Inc. (CWT) (also known as The Coders Who Travel Foundation ), I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect. I knew I wanted to grow in tech, but I didn’t realize how much the program would boost my confidence, shape my mindset, and influence how I approach opportunities.

What started as simple curiosity turned into a journey of finding my voice, building my strength, and discovering my unique learning style. I had always loved technology, but I needed a space that would challenge me, guide me, and help me unlock my potential. CWT became that space.

At first, I was shy. I didn’t talk much during group activities and often held back from asking questions because I worried about making mistakes or sounding unsure. I would sit quietly, observe others, and speak only when necessary.

But the environment at CWT was friendly and supportive. Our mentors treated every question with patience, appreciated our efforts, and made sure everyone felt included. Gradually, I started opening up more. I asked questions, offered suggestions, and actively participated. I became more comfortable speaking in front of others, volunteering during discussions, and even helping my peers when they needed support.

One of the first things we learned was how to create a professional résumé. Before that, I wasn’t sure how to structure one or what details mattered most. CWT made it easy to understand the format, the tone, and how to showcase skills effectively. We didn’t just learn how to write résumés; we also learned how to customize them for different roles.

It was the first time I truly realized that a résumé is more than just a document — it’s a reflection of who you are and what you bring to the table. Afterward, we moved on to interview preparation.

This part of the program challenged me the most. I used to struggle with speaking confidently, especially when I felt like others were evaluating me. But through practice sessions, mock interviews, and feedback, I learned how to carry myself, speak clearly, and answer questions confidently.

I also learned about body language, tone, and professional etiquette. These skills will serve me well in future opportunities. Another key part of the program was learning how to write a strong cover letter and build a professional LinkedIn profile. These are things I often heard professionals discuss, but I didn’t fully understand how to create them.

CWT guided me step by step, helping me understand what employers look for and how to present myself clearly and professionally. Today, I can confidently prepare documents that represent who I am and what I aim to achieve.

Building my LinkedIn profile also helped me see myself in a more professional light — as someone who is developing, growing, and actively building a path in tech. Beyond the technical lessons, CWT taught me several moral and personal values I didn’t expect to gain. I learned accountability — understanding that every task I submit reflects my effort and discipline.

I learned communication, especially the importance of asking for clarity and sharing progress instead of struggling silently. I learned dedication and diligence because some assignments required time, consistency, and commitment. These values have helped me not only in the program but also in school, personal projects, and teamwork. Balancing everything wasn’t easy.

I had to juggle academics, robotics, CWT assignments, and other commitments. There were moments when I felt tired or overwhelmed, especially when deadlines for schoolwork and CWT tasks overlapped. But I learned how to manage my time better, prioritize, and stay disciplined even when things got tough.

This balancing act taught me responsibility and strengthened my ability to stay focused. Working on projects in CWT also pushed me to grow. Whether it was preparing documents, completing assignments, or learning new tools, I challenged myself each time. There were moments when I didn’t understand something immediately, but instead of giving up, I learned to research, ask for help, and try again.

With each completed task, I felt my confidence grow — not just in tech but in myself. The mentorship I received from the CWT team played a big role in my growth. They consistently encouraged us to show up fully, push past our fears, and believe in our potential. They created a safe space where learning was not just about passing tasks but about truly understanding and improving.

Their guidance helped me develop discipline, professionalism, and a strong work ethic. Overall, my experience with Coders Who Travel has been more than a learning program. It has been a journey of transformation. I discovered my voice through speaking up, my strength through taking on challenges, and my style through the way I approach tasks, think creatively, and stay committed.

The lessons I learned, both technical and personal, have shaped me into someone more confident, more responsible, and more prepared for the future. I’m grateful for the mentors who guided me, the skills I gained, and the values that continue to shape my choices.

Coders Who Travel didn’t just teach me how to build résumés or cover letters — it helped me build myself. And that is something I will carry with me throughout my entire journey in tech and beyond.
